This week's question courtesy of Parajunkee's (& Alison's!) Follow Friday is:

Q: Have you ever wanted a villain to win at the end of a story? If so, which one?

All right,  I'm going to play devil's advocate and say at times that the notion of a villain is wholly subjective. While there are obviously clear-cut examples that most everyone would agree on (Voldemort) there are also ones that don't fall so easily into black and white definitions and so these are the ones that I think are allowed a little more leniency. For example, Severus Snape (one of my favorite literary characters), is considered bad and evil by a lot of people but there was never a moment in the books that I wasn't rooting for him. He was the character I cried the most over because I know there was so much about him in between the lines. Almost more than Harry winning (because that, to me, seemed inevitable) I so wanted to right about Snape. To split even more hairs, even while Dimitri (VA) was...not quite Dimitri, I wanted him not so much to win, but to win himself.

To be fair, I don't much like the characters that are annoyingly and falsely badass - those are hardly memorable - but the ones who have a journey, who are more than just a snarky mouth and a lean against the wall, and that's something we get to explore... those are the characters I love. 

Q: Many of us primarily read one genre of books, with others sprinkled in. If authors stopped writing that genre, what genre would you start reading? Or would you give up reading completely if you couldn't read that genre anymore? - Crazy For Books

The idea of me giving up reading is so completely painful and foreign that it's almost a non-concept. Purely impossible. I read a lot of different genres; I also read a lot of adult fiction and non-fiction but a lot of that I don't mention here unless I feel it can be related in some how or unless I absolutely loved it. So while you could say that dystopian fiction is my favorite genre, I think I'd be okay reading other things, too. Thankfully as the idea of dystopia is intrinsically related to the present day as new ideas are created and things happen in the world, I don't see it going away any time soon.

Q: In books like the Sookie Stackhouse (True Blood) series, the paranormal creature in question 'comes out of the closet' and makes itself known to the world. Which mythical creature do you wish would come out of the closet for real?

When I saw mythical creature I immediately thought of a non-humanoid one like a unicorn or a pegasus - both animals that I would definitely love if they came out of the closet and into my life. If we're talking people, then I think I wouldn't mind the types of beings from the Vampire Academy series. I never thought I'd be saying that as I'm not a huge vampire or werewolf person (VA and Shiver aside respectively) but the dynamic between the Moroi and the Dhampir were incredibly fascinating and I wouldn't mind learning more about it. If it gave me the opportunity to have a drink with Rose and meet Dimitri, please, sign me up.

I could do without the Strigoi, though. They can stay home and play in their own sandbox.

Q: Non book-related this week! Do you have pets?

Oh boy. I do indeed have pets. In fact, I just brushed off some Tigger fur from the screen. I mention this in my who, me?, but I have three cats. Two were mine previously (a lovely tabby and a tortoiseshell), and then we have a third, a cat who must have been abandoned by a family who moved away and little by little we took fed her until she just moved in with us completely. She's a pretty black and white (mask and mantle) kitty, and is probably the sweetest most well-mannered cat that I've ever met. I've never shown pictures of her, but you can see Tigger in most of my vlogs and here, and you can see Sora in my 200 Follower Giveaway post (which is still very much open, so enter away!). 

As you might have guessed, I love animals.

Good morning, everyone! I always tend to do these things when I just wake up so my answers are probably a little zanier than they might be otherwise. That's not entirely a bad thing, though! And I could have sworn that I did the Book Blogger Hop once before, but maybe I never posted it. Funny. Here they are!

Q. It's circle time. Time for us to open up and share. Can you tell us FIVE quirky habits or things about you? We all have them...

1. Probably the quirkiest bit is an area where I'm slightly OCD. When walking I usually avoid stepping on the cracks of sidewalks so that I'm timing my steps in between each large block so that I don't step on it or I make sure I step in connecting diagonals so that my steps are even. I do this with patterned floors too so that I step in only the blocks that have the pattern, not the plain ones. I know. Welcome to my crazy OCD.
2. When I'm tired I often revert to speaking in a language other than English. Not because it's my native language, but because it's less work: getting to say less while still meaning the same thing.
3. I love sandals and will wear any variety of them as often as I can throughout there year as long as there isn't snow outside. Yet I hate the hot hot humid weather. 70s? Fine. Lower 80s? Okay. 90s? No, thank you.
4. Traveling by train or by bike is my favorite way to travel. Last year I was on a 20 hour train ride from New York to my friend's wedding and although it was long and tiring the people, stories, and gorgeous bits of my country that I've never seen were more than worth it.
5. I have a thing of Burt's Bees in pretty much every accessible spot. On my desk, next to my bed, in my car, and every bag. The peppermint scent is fabulous and it works so well!

This week's question via Crazy-for-Books is:

"If you were given the chance to spend one day in a fictional world (from a book), which book would it be from and what would that place be?"

This question is ridiculously difficult. Even though the setting of JKR's Harry Potter series isn't that different from ours, the magic certainly is. I was just at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and seeing it still was breathtaking enough; being able to see it alive and move as Jo wrote would be astounding. One of my favorite characters is Severus Snape, so the chance to meet him would have me at a faint, I'm sure. Aaaaand I want another glass of butterbeer. I have my cup already.

Breakfast time! I can't wait to see what fun quirks everyone has and where'd you go. After reading all of the answers I'll probably ask you to bring me with you!
